Doug Smith (R), Incumbent running for Martin County Comm. Dist 1

Doug has lived in Jensen Beach since 1990. Prior to becoming Martin County Commissioner, Doug became actively involved in extensive community service such as: past President /board member of the Elliott Museum/Historical Society and Maritime & Yachting Museum, board member of Hibiscus Children’s Council, Tri-County Tech Foundation now called HPS-Helping People Succeed, Environmental Studies Council, Florida Oceanographic society, Founding Officer Indian RiverSide Park Alliance (IRSA), and Founding Officer Friends of Mount Elizabeth (FOME) as well as his involvement in various County boards.
-Doug graduated from the first Martin County Citizens Academy Resources Education series course (CARES),
-Doug was the first non-sitting commissioner to complete the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Certification Program for County Commissioners, as it was very important to be prepared for the office he sought in 2000.
-Doug also completed the County Leadership Institute program offered by the National Association of Counties (NACo), the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Services and the Local Government Leadership program.
-Member of the Republican Club and Republican 100 Club.
-Member of the Fraternal Order of Elks and Order Sons of Italy,-Commissioner Smith participated in the Southeast Florida Honor Flights as a guardian with veteran to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the veterans service and sacrifices – Sept 18, 2010, Sept 24, 2011, May 12, 2012, Nov 3, 2012, Sept 7, 2013, June 5-7, 2014.Commissioner Smith is committed to serving the residents and businesses of Martin County and preserving/improving our Martin County quality of life.https://www.facebook.com/dougsmithyes/
